Embossing is the method for making sculpted effects on paper and is achieved by pressing a sheet between a male and female die. The finished result can stand alone as ‘blind’ embossing, ie without any colour printed over it, or combined with other printing techniques, so lifting a flat, pre-printed image out of the page to create a 3D effect.

Screenprinted finishes offer a huge range of colours, and is popular for neons and coloured effects which give a bang-up-to-date feeling to wrap and cards. Screenprinted ink sits on the board and gives a distinctive raised effect.

Foiling is the combination of heat and pressure from a metal block (a die) to transfer foil on to a printed sheet. But it’s more than just adding a gold or silver effect. There are a vast range of colours and textures that are available in foiling nowadays. These include metallic colours, pigment, clear, tinted and holographic.

Also known as encapsulated glitter, the glitter is applied within a gloss screen varnish. The effect is stunning and can be used on uncoated stocks as well as coated. There are many colours of glitter available to choose from also, to be kind to the environment ECO glitter is now an option.

This finish comes from cutting shapes out of a printed sheet using a cutter. This allows us to finish to virtually any shape you require. This might be adding rounded edges or alternatively very complex shapes to closely register to the print.

This finish gives a high-gloss effect, which is applied to the litho-printed finish as the final procedure in the printing process. It is particularly useful to highlight certain areas and is also very effective when used in combination with embossing or debossing. Alongside the spot UV there are different types of varnish that can be applied, including matt, textured and hi-build.
